One of the most beloved characters in The Legend of Zelda is Sheik, and there are several fans who want to see a game starring him. However, it seems that Nintendo has never intended to do so, or at least that was thought until now, since a leak confirmed that a similar project was in development.
It is no surprise that every year there are project cancellations in the video game industry, we can even say that it is a more common practice than you think, which ends with ideas that for many would be sure success. Such is the case with this Retro Studios game.
According to the information, the studio was commissioned with this title between 2005 and 2008 and would give fans of the franchise the opportunity to use the Sheik they met in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time , although it never passed the pre-production stage.
Here you can see the leaked document:
A document lists all games in development around 2006, including an action game with Sheik from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time . Could be the axed Retro Studios title!
Pre-production of Retro Studios’ Sheik Zelda project between 2005 and 2008 (the same artist also worked on Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Donkey Kong Country Returns), so we can assume it could have been planned to be released on Nintendo Wii or WiiU. As we can read on their original page:
“Old storage hard-drive diving! (2005 – 2008) More stuff from a long lost cancelled Zelda (Sheik) action/jrpg that never went beyond pre-production. Really want to return to these some day to finish a few. Zelda games have wacky weird stuff, and this game was setting out to be ten times weirder.”
“Fun pre-pre-pre-production origin story of the Master Sword. Within the bad ending of “Ocarina of Time” exploring the last male Sheik’s (after a genocidal ethnic-cleansing) journey transforming into the Master Sword. All while the Dark Gerudo are giving their 100 year birth to Gannon.”
In addition, the information is perfectly complemented by the concept art of former Retro Studios pre-production artist Sammy Hall on the canceled game, who in a statement to IGN mentioned that he did not believe that many people at Nintendo saw the work done for him. project and that it may have been canceled when senior Retro Studios executives left the company.
It is worth mentioning that this title of The Legend of Zelda starring Sheik, would have been an action RPG game for Wii and would serve as a continuation of the end of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time .
