Epic Games provided developers with early access to Unreal Engine 5, but we have to wait for truly next-gen productions using the potential of technology. Currently, we can take a look at the photorealistic forest show, which looks very impressive.
The American manufacturer and publisher are getting ready to launch the full version of Unreal Engine 5 more and more – in May, the first capabilities of the engine were presented, and in the meantime, other developers announced its use in the latest positions. Gears 6 will be built on Unreal Engine 5, while the studio responsible for Concrete Genie will use the technology for the next project.
Recently, Melhem Sfeir published a presentation of a photorealistic tropical forest, which was created in Unreal Engine 5. This is a technological demo that works in real time – the author launched the project on GeForce RTX 3070 and used, among others, Nanite (a novelty that allows you to build realistic landscapes with a huge amount of geometric details ) and Lumen (a solution related to lighting that dynamically responds to changes in the scenery). According to the creator, the presentation works at 40-50 frames per second, but it is worth noting that the show did not receive an implemented DLSS, which would most likely affect performance.
I must admit that the video looks great and shows many details, reflecting the atmosphere of a tropical jungle. Over time, we can expect more and more similar materials.
