Keeping the promise made a few weeks ago, Blizzard Entertainment has finally introduced the cross-play functionality within Overwatch , thus fulfilling the request of many users eager to play with their friends.
PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch players will now be able to connect with each other, but console users will be required to create a Battle.net account and link it to their PSN, Xbox Live or Nintendo profile . Blizzard has specified that the cross-play between PC and console will be activated for all game modes, except for competitive games , where excessive game imbalances could have been created.
“By default, a console party will play with other console users , “ explained game director Aaron Keller. “A group of PC players will play with PC players, but also groups made up of both PC and console players.
Please note that this does not include the competitive mode , “ added Keller. “You won’t be able to play as a party consisting of PC and console players. Each of them will have their own separate matchmaking pools . ” Further details are detailed in the video that you find at the top of the news, or in the FAQ published by Blizzard.
To celebrate the introduction of cross-play, the team led by Keller will make available an unlockable gold loot box simply by logging in by the end of 2021 .
