One of the strengths that Microsoft has focused on to advertise the new Xbox Series X / S consoles is the exclusivity of important features such as Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision . However, a post from the French Xbox team temporally delimits the exclusivity of these technologies.
Microsoft has indeed pointed from the early stages of the launch campaign of Xbox Series X / S on the exclusivity of video and audio technologies developed by Dolby Laboratories, as opposed to the Tempest Engine for PlayStation 5 . While Dolby Vision is preparing to debut on the new Redmond consoles (at the moment it is already available for participants in the Xbox Insider program), the French Xbox team has published an official news that seems to limit the exclusivity of these features in time. As we read on the pages of Xbox Wire France:
Les Xbox Series X|S sont compatibles Dolby Atmos depuis leur sortie et le Dolby Vision arrivera sur ces consoles au cours de l’année 2021, les deux technologies resteront exclusives à l’écosystème Xbox pendant deux ans.
Translation: “The Xbox Series X|S have been Dolby Atmos compatible since their release and Dolby Vision will arrive on these consoles in 2021, both technologies will remain exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem for two years.”
Article is now deleted. The quote is still available
In short, the post leaves no room for interpretations: Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision will remain exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem for two years, probably until 2023. Xbox and Bethesda for E3 2021, scheduled for June 13th.
