Sony has registered a new wireless module and it looks like it will be installed in the new revision of the PS5. A confidential document to the specification the CFI-1115A was uploaded to the website of the Government of Peru, ” Audits and sanctions in the area of communications .”
The document contains the characteristics of the new wireless module, called AW-XM501, but it also indicates that it will be used in the revision of the console under the number CFI-1115A.
By the way, the release version of the PlayStation 5 is numbered CFI-1XXX . While the model indicated in the Sony documentation will be released under the CFI-11XX numbers , which suggests that the new CFI-1115A model may be associated with the first internal redesign of the console.
It is likely that the new wireless module will replace the installed J20H100 , and there will be almost no difference between them, except for a slightly amplified antenna.
When connected to a router in the 2.4 GHz band, the new module will have a peak antenna gain of 4.0 / 3.5 dBi compared to 6.0 / 6.0 dBi in the starter model. When connected to a 5 GHz network, the peak antenna gain of the new module will be 6.0 / 4.5 dBi , now 5.0 / 3.5 dBi . It’s not clear if this will affect your connection speed.
