While we wait for the definitive data on the Spanish box office for the weekend – which I already told you points to the triumph of ‘Spiral: Saw’ -, we will travel beyond our borders to take a look at international box office marked by the anticipated premiere of ‘Fast & Furious 9’; which has become the best release of a Hollywood movie in the international market during the pandemic.
The new installment of the franchise, directed by veteran Justin Lin, has debuted in specific territories outside the United States raising a whopping $ 163 million. China has been responsible for harvesting 81% of this sum -136 million, specifically-, followed by South Korea -9.9 million-, Russia -8.3 million-, Saudi Arabia -2.67 million- and the Emirates United Arabs —2.64 million.
As far as the United States is concerned, ‘Spiral’ continues to be anchored to the top of the Top 5 with the highest grossing in its second week, with 4.59 million dollars raised after a drop of 47%; adding a total of 15.8 million; amount slightly lower than that of ‘Wake up the fury’, which already accumulates 18.8 million after three weeks, having amassed 2.97 million during the past weekend.
‘Those who wish my death’ remains in third position, closing a Top 3 unchanged, with 1.92 million dollars. The table is closed by ‘Raya and the last dragon’ and ‘Godzilla vs Kong’, with 1.6 and 1.4 million dollars respectively after twelve weeks in the case of the Disney film and eight in the case of the latest installment of the MonsterVerse by Legendary and Warner.
