Life is full of nuances. I have found that this little thing makes me stand out and makes me very valuable during business meetings.
There are an infinity of things that we know but do not do. Most of them are easy to implement. In theory.
Eat healthy so as not to gain more weight.
Play sports regularly to stay in shape.
Read books to never stop learning.
One of these universal wisdoms applied to the business world is taking notes during a meeting. Everyone knows they should do it but my experience is that few do it or don’t do it well.
I tell you quickly how I do it and what it brings me.
- I take notes on every meeting I participate in. They are short notes summarizing the most important.
- If there is a task for me, I mark it with yellow. If you can’t do it instantly, go to my Excel where I organize my day with times (not with tasks). I try to make the point appear as soon as possible because there is no room for many tasks.
- I save the notes in Word. The title contains the name of the participants, the main topic and the date.
You see. The big secret is taking notes during a meeting. The nuance is to get it right. Many times you start a follow-up meeting and the participants don’t even remember what was discussed last time. It is there where in a matter of 30 seconds I find my notes (searching by names, keyword or date) from the last meeting with the most important points that were discussed on that occasion.
It is easy to do but few do. Adding value is sometimes less complicated than you might think.
