The directors of ‘The Curse of Lake Manor’ (Il Nido, 2019), Roberto De Feo and Paolo Strippoli, have prepared for Netflix a mysterious Italian horror movie titled ‘A Classic Horror Story‘, whose trailer has been shared by Netflix with the description “Think of an Italian ‘Midsommar’ crossed with ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ “.
‘A Classic Horror Story’, also has a script by Roberto De Feo and Paolo Strippoli accompanied by Lucio Besana, Milo Tissone and David Bellini, and is presented as a tribute to the tradition of the Italian genre that, based on classic references, from forests, cults and masked creatures, which comes to “create something completely new.”
This is the official plot:
“Five people sharing the car travel in a motor home to reach a common destination. Night falls and to avoid the carcass of an animal they crash into a tree. When they regain consciousness, they find themselves in the middle of nowhere. The road the one they were traveling through has disappeared; now there is only a dense and impenetrable forest and a wooden house in the middle of a clearing. They will soon discover that it is the home of an unnameable cult. How did they get there? What really happened after the accident? Who are the masked creatures depicted in the paintings in the house? Can they trust each other to try to get out of the nightmare they have been trapped in? “
The film features the protagonists Matilda Lutz, Francesco Russo, Peppino Mazzotta, Yulia Sobol, Will Merrick, Alida Baldari Calabria and Cristina Donadio. ‘A Classic Horror Story’ arrives on Netflix on July 14 and from what it shows in the trailer, it shows the influence of Lucio Fulci and recovering the brutal tortures of torture porn, with some kind of twist on the tropes and conventions typical of the genre .
