For the first time ever at a Disney Parks attraction, experience-changing accessories are on sale.
The next June 4th will open in the park Disney California Adventure from Anaheim, California, the Avengers Campus, a themed land completely dedicated to the superheroes of Marvel. In this new area of the park the main attraction will be WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, an attraction interactive in which visitors will be able to board a special vehicle, put on a pair of 3-D glasses Y throw Spider webs to help the spider hero on his mission.
The new Spider-Man attraction will allow visitors to shoot cobwebs from a special vehicle. It is not the first time that Disney presents an interactive attraction in its parks, if we consider some of the most popular interactive games such as Toy Story Mania! —Which has its own adaptation to a console video game— or the recent Smuggler’s run from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that allows visitors to take control of the Millenium Falcon. What is different this time with the attraction of Spider-man is that for the first time the micropayments, or something very similar to the sale of physical accessories that modify the gaming experience.
This week the Disney Parks Blog unveiled the souvenirs that will be on sale at Avenger’s Campus and among them are the Power Bands, a kind of bangles that offer an added advantage in attraction. The WEB Power Band basic has a cost of 30 dollars and unlock the multiple shots when you get on the ride. Additionally there is extra accessories for the Power Band, at a cost of $ 35 each, which unlock special shots like the Electro-Dynamic Web-shooter that unlocks electrified cobwebs inspired by Ghost spider, or the Cannon-inspired Repulsor Hombre de Hierro It allows you to launch energy shots instead of cobwebs. If in doubt it is a very interesting technology, but that has also generated criticism on social networks for the cost of the complements.
Until now unknown if there will be a score record or something similar to what happens in attractions like Toy Story Mania !, because if so we would be talking about a pay-to-win where those who have equipped themselves with the WEB Power Band and accessories could have an advantage. Fans have already expressed their disagreement in social networks for the prices of the accessories and the fact of conditioning those different experiences with the game to the purchase of the same.
Finally, it should also be considered that Disney is not the only company that has done something like this in its parks. Universal studios, for example, has for sale Harry Potter magic wands that react with certain places in their parks and there are also the new smart bands offered as an option at the newly opened Super Nintendo World; That said, the annoyance of some fans with regard to the attraction of Spider-Man has to do with the advantages that those who acquire the accessories will have in the game. The Disney Park Blog also clarifies that Spider-Man’s WEB Power Band and its accessories have light, sound and air effects that can also be used outside the park.
