The Digital Enterprise Show returns. Many events have a jump in their editions, going from 2019 to 2021 and this is the case of DES. Last year they were forced to stop with the pandemic, but this has allowed them to return in 2021 with more force.
In Ecommerce News we have spoken with Malin Svensson current director of the DES2021 so you can tell us what this new edition will bring.
Ecommerce News (EcN): What are we going to find this year at DES2021?
Malin Svensson (MS): In this edition, as in previous ones, we wanted to include and unite the entire ecosystem around digital transformation and digitization. For this, we will have different technological solutions, suppliers and brilliant minds from all sectors.
DES is a place for all types of companies, even entrepreneurs who are just starting their startups. It is important to unite this entire ecosystem so that visitors can find a good technological partner that will accompany them on their digitization path or simply solutions that help them understand how to proceed in digitization, as well as streamlining these processes.
This year we have added all the tools that can help drive digitization and are available to companies, such as extenuation funds. We want to expand this ecosystem a bit and include these tools that have gained great relevance over the last year and that we believe will continue to do so in 2021.
For us it is a very special edition, we know that visitors need to solve issues now, especially since digitization has accelerated a lot. So we understand that those who are going to come will do so with set objectives and looking for solutions. At DES we are working hard to help you.
We have designed the congress agenda thinking above all about being useful. For this, we have talks that will provide tangible content and where there will be things that visitors will feel reflected on and will be able to take the advice that is offered to practice.
In this edition, the strategy that encompasses all the development of DES is accelerating performance, and there we highlight 3 fundamental tasks for the transformation and digitization to be successful. On the one hand, we find the whole issue of trust, ethics, privacy. On the other, the issue of people as employees or customers. Finally, the part of benefits where we include the issue of sustainability.
EcN: How many people will be able to attend in person and what security measures have been adopted? Will people from outside Spain attend?
MS: Our company holds other events and this is the fourth that we develop in 2021. Therefore, our COVID protocol is already well tested and we trust in guaranteeing a safe environment. We are planning this edition to welcome some 10,000 people, taking into account the necessary distances and the rest of the necessary measures. The event is held at IFEMA and the ventilation system they have allows the air to be changed 5 times in an hour. This will make the environment much safer.
Some international speakers will attend, although this is still a bit tricky. Some companies still have restrictions for this.
EcN: Are we going to see any big changes compared to previous editions?
MS: It is an edition where we have decided to have fewer auditoriums so that professionals can more easily find what they are looking for. DES2021 is aimed at all professional branches, from CEOs to Human Resources professionals.
The congress is structured by sectors, and we can find: retail, banking, smart city, health, industry 4.0 and tourism. We also have scenarios where we address specific professionals.
EcN: What sectors will have more presence?
MS: Apart from the sectors that we have mentioned before, we can find others, for example the agency world that is more aimed at agencies. DES is a transversal event where we cover all sectors, although in this edition priority will be given to those mentioned above.
EcN: In this fifth edition of DES there will be no shortage of the European Digital Mindset Awards, has the call for entries been closed yet?
MS: We have already closed the call and we have the three finalists. The awards ceremony is on the 19th in the afternoon.
For us these awards are very important, because we help to publicize role models, both companies and people or projects.
EcN: One of the topics that will be discussed at DES is the Next Generation EU funds. How can these benefit Spanish companies?
MS: We will have several sessions to explain them. There is too much information on this topic and this makes it difficult to understand who is eligible for this help. We want people to be able to understand them and help the Spanish fabric to streamline digitization processes.
People who come to DES will get a first look at how these funds work and how to apply for them.
EcN: What role is digitization taking in companies?
MS: Digitization is driving many changes in both public and private companies. In recent months what we have experienced is an acceleration, which perhaps for many companies has come when they were not yet ready.
The pandemic has forced many companies to find solutions to remain operational. This does not mean that companies have been immersed in the digitization process for years.
The important thing is that the technology itself will not produce the desired effects if a good strategy is not made. It is important to understand the impact one is looking for in order to choose the correct advice. Understanding the impact, for example, to improve the relationship with the client or employees, the strategy is set and the solution is sought.
EcN: What role does sustainability play in DES?
MS: There are companies that already work with these objectives and have developed strategies. However, other companies encounter more difficulties.
At DES it seems necessary to address this issue and technologies allow us to meet the objectives, for this reason, we have included it in our agenda.
