Peaky Blinders, not that fictional …
We had good news for the fans not long ago: Tommy Shelby is back on a first video of the shooting of season 6 of Peaky Blinders, which will be directly inserted into the historical period before WWII. And this is not the only resemblance to reality that the series will have since throughout all the seasons, several characters in the series were indeed directly inspired by real personalities. In addition to the gang of Peaky Blinders and mythical characters like Winston Churchill, we also know that Billy Kimber, leader of the Birmingham Boys, really existed.
The character of Darby Sabini has also existed since, as in the series, he was the head of the “Sabini gang” in the 1900s. The case of the great Alfie Solomons, played by Tom Hardy, is a little more complex since it is not known for sure who he was completely based on, but a Jewish bookmaker who dealt with Billy Kimber and his men did exist. Jessie Eden, the communist who calls for equal pay for men and women and a lot of other things, is also based on a real activist from Birmingham. Finally some surely already know, Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) is not an invention of the writers either since he was at the head of the British Union of Fascists. Another proof – if one was still needed – that in its intrigues as in its realization, Peaky Blinders is clearly a small nugget.
