The sale of smartphones should pick up again very strongly in the first half of 2021, boosted by the new iPhone 12 series.
2020 has been a very difficult year for the smartphone world. Production was first affected, before the backlash was felt in the market afterwards, with sales falling across the globe – with a few notable exceptions like Xiaomi aside -. A cyclical situation, which should not last. In any case, this is what the latest information from the Asian daily specializing in the tech sector confirms. DigiTimes, for whom phone sales will explode again in the first quarter of 2021. And it is first Apple that we should thank!
In total, 50% sales growth can be expected this quarter, with 350 million models sold worldwide. Apple will continue in the tradition of its excellent last quarter of 2020 in selling 60 million iPhones during this period, while its rival Samsung would benefit little from the advanced release of its flagships, with 60 to 65 million devices sold. The other big winner would be Xiaomi, which in Q4 2020 and Q1 2021 combined would sell 90 million phones. Unsurprisingly, Huawei, whose difficulties are now known to all, would only sell 20 million smartphones during this period.
