The judge in the case has opted for a face-to-face trial due to the importance of the matter at hand.
One of the events of the year? We don’t know yet, but it is clear that there is going to be a lot of stir. We talk about the legal battle between Epic Games and Apple for the Fortnite case. After several complaints and claims imposed in different parts of the world, the two firms will face each other in a trial that will take place next May 3; and it will be face-to-face despite sanitary restrictions.
The trial of Epic and Apple will be in person to prevent those present from lying in their statementsThe judge Yvonne gonzalez, of the Northern District of California, is the one who has ruled that the hearing be in person, since it is a “matter too important to be dealt with electronically.” In case you don’t know what we are talking about, the two companies are in war since summer 2020. In the first place, Epic Games established an alternative form of payment on iOS devices and thus circumvent the 30% rate that the apple firm takes with all the content available in the App Store, avoiding paying the signed commissions. Obviously, an action that did not sit well with those of Cupertino, who withdrew the game from their digital stores.
Epic then started the “Free Fortnite” platform, a publicity stunt to turn its users against Apple, even giving gifts to influencers with that slogan. What they want from Epic Games is to fight for some “Fairer Digital Practices for Developers and Consumers on Different Platforms” and that Apple “does not use the control of its ecosystem to its benefit”, eliminating the competition in the distribution of apps and payment methods.
Now, we only have to wait until next May 3 to find out how this legal battle that has been going on for months with various cross-talk between both sides will be resolved. The view, as we say, will be face-to-face and there will be a capacity limit in the courts and those who have to travel to the event will do so after serving two weeks of quarantine to maintain the necessary security measures. In relation to one side, we recently learned that Epic Games has bought out the creators of Fall Guys.
