Bruce Banner was in charge of replicating the super serum that gave rise to Captain America, and he would have succeeded according to a new theory.
As astonishing as it may sound, Super Soldier Serum is also at the center of a lot of Marvel Studios fan theories. Its effects and its functioning are particularly intriguing. One of the most recent concerns how it impacted scientist Bruce Banner, previously commissioned by the government to replicate said serum. The experiment didn’t go as he planned and that’s how the Hulk was born. However, this new hypothesis claims the opposite. According to the user Reddit The Coughing, Bruce Banner managed to replicate the super serum, and the Hulk is only the result of the injection.
In fact, in Captain America: First Avenger, it is specified that the serum highlights the main trait of the individual who receives it. In Bruce’s case, anger is a particularly present emotion, and directly linked to his transformation into the Hulk. So, according to this theory, the serum only exacerbated his anger by giving him the form of an overpowered creature. In commentary, other fans supported this hypothesis with an additional argument: gamma rays. Unlike SHIELD, the scientist did not have access to vita rays. A major difference that could explain why the Hulk was created, rather than Bruce transforming once and for all on the first try. Not sure we will ever have the answer in the MCU, but this theory is certainly one of those that hold up well. Another Hulk theory makes Bruce Banner’s alter-ego a creation of HYDRA.
