What was given for the future of Anthem. Finally Electronic Arts and BioWare have made the decision that many of us feared cancel definitively the development of Anthem Next or Anthem 2.0, as each one would like to call it, and they will not continue with further updates.
About a year ago BioWare revealed that it intended redesign the entire experience from top to bottom and modify numerous aspects of the game in general in order to offer a satisfying enough experience for everyone. However, the promise remained in the air, because just a few weeks ago he warned that the future of Anthem hung by a thread.
Well, finally the rope has completely broken, because Christian dailey, executive producer, has published a statement in which he comments that the impact caused by the coronavirus and the desire to focus on other projects It turned out to be a strong enough mix not to go ahead with Anthem.
We leave you below with the full statement:
In our spirit of transparency, we wanted to share that we have made the difficult decision to completely stop development of the new Anthem (also known as Anthem Next). However, we will continue to maintain the servers as is the case today.
Since the launch of Anthem, the team has been working hard to continually improve the game, releasing multiple updates that have introduced a variety of improvements and introduced new content to play. Towards the end of 2019 we expanded that effort and began work on a more fundamental restructuring of the game.
During development we provided updates that revealed some of the team’s work through posts on our website and conversations we’ve had with you on social media, and it has been very inspiring for us to see the positive feedback and reactions. I am very proud of the work the team has been doing and excited to see and play each new version of the experience.
However, 2020 has been a year unlike any other and, although we continue to make progress on all our projects, working from home during the pandemic has had a major impact on our productivity and not everything we had planned before the coronavirus has been possible. comply without having a great load of stress on our teams.
I know this will be very disappointing to the Anthem community, who were excited to see the improvements we were working on. It is also disappointing for the team who were doing a brilliant job. And for me personally, Anthem is what brought me to BioWare, and the last two years have been some of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my career.
Video game development is complicated. Decisions like this are not easy. Moving forward, we will focus our efforts on strengthening upcoming Dragon Age and Mass Effect titles while continuing to provide quality updates on Star Wars: The Old Republic.
To the Anthem community, thank you for your passion and creativity. Without a doubt, your comments and suggestions will help shape the direction of the team and, on a personal level, your kindness and encouragement have been much needed in the past year.
As you can see, anyone can continue playing Anthem if they wish, although we will not see any news and no more changes across its entire universe so BioWare can fully dedicate itself to the future Dragon age 4, the new Mass Effect and also work on more surprises that will come to Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Undoubtedly sad news, although on the other hand it was also seen coming from the amount of problems what has happened since its launch, to which we must add that the sales it obtained they were not to shoot rockets either. So, we will have to wait for the next few months to discover what will BioWare show of the new installments of its other franchises.
