In December I made the fattest Lego purchase to date. This is how the sales of this investment have gone so far.
Since we made the investment in Lego in December, it hasn’t been too long. It was the fattest purchase to date. I am happy that I took the step and accepted money from my brothers to make the investment. The prices we have achieved at that time have been incredible and have not been repeated since then. One of the basic lessons of reselling and investing is that the profit is in the purchase price.
In which sets have we invested the money?
I’m not going to make the detailed list but not because I have a secret with you. It is rather to go faster with this entry. I have taken advantage of being able to acquire exclusive Lego sets that are not sold in all stores. Few of these have been Lego EOL (End of life). One of the things that I am taking advantage of is having inventory of many popular products even though it may not be competitive in the short term. There are always variations and changes in demand so suddenly you can sell a set with an ROI of 50-100% that in theory is not yet “mature”. I do not recommend this strategy if you still invest little. In my case, I have a lot of variation at the product level and it also gives me feedback on the potential prices that this product can reach once it has actually entered the EOL phase.
I have invested in Harry Potter, Batman, Friends (the series), Star Wars but also City. You also have to keep an eye on those that nobody is talking about. The most interesting are the products that you can buy for around 10 euros or less and then resell them for between 29 to 39 euros. It is much easier to have an ROI of 50% with these than with one where the purchase price is around 200 euros. In my case I have also seen an opportunity in this price range. We have invested in a set of> 200 euros and then resell it for> 550 euros. I think I bought about 20 and we have at most 2-3 left.
How long will it take to sell everything?
The sale has been much faster than expected. I told my brothers not to have anything for another 18 months. I have already paid them 6,000 euros of benefits from this investment so I think they cannot complain …
70% of inventory has already left. To sell everything we will possibly take another 18 months from now. There are sets that have not yet entered the EOL phase and will possibly take a little longer to get to that point. The Friends set is one of them but with a purchase price of 45 euros I am not too concerned. I understand that here we can see sale prices of 120 euros in a matter of 12-18 months.
You will see that this is an incredibly fun “game”. The word to play should not mislead you. It is an investment and it is money. If you need it to live, don’t do it. I said, I’ve been lucky and things have gone well for me. I do not make a living by buying and selling and investing in collectible toys. My main source of income continues to be my clients, so everything I get with Lego and other investments I can reinvest without fear.
Stay tuned.
