It wouldn’t be surprising to see this formidable organization return in Phase 4 of the MCU!
While the series WandaVision inaugurated the launch of Phase 4 of the MCU, we still have many questions aboutAvengers: Endgame. And for good reason, become a real phenomenon, the film of the Russo brothers will have in the next adaptations of marvel studios, a significant impact. Whether it is the consequences of Thanos’ snap, those of the blip or even the legacy of Iron Man and Captain America, many ramifications will still be established in order to make the link with one of the most spectacular crossovers of the Marvel universe. And this is particularly the case in relation to the existence of the Hydra.
Dissolved within SHIEL.D at the end of Captain America and the Winter Soldier, the latter could very well make its return in Phase 4 of the MCU, either through a villain already established in films like Mitchell Carson or through a completely new character. Anyway, we could then discover that this terrorist organization has in reality never disappeared and could even have taken advantage of the evaporation of several Avengers between the snap and the blip to carry out several experiments and actions. Indeed, it is difficult to imagine the small group having put an end to its paramilitary activities when you know that its faithful saying goes: “Cut off one head, it will grow back two more.”
In addition, if part of the Hydra necessarily disappeared at the same time as the snap, this considerably reducing the forces of the organization, a chain of command could on the other hand have remained during the past five years. In addition, and while the remaining Avengers have continued to keep the planet safe, it is possible that the Hydra took advantage of this considerable amount of time to come up with a plan that could serve their future interests. Finally, global governments as well as political institutions are expected to play a significant role in MCU Phase 4. Indeed, it would not be surprising if the Avengers are still accountable to the international sphere. However, and this like SHIELD before it, one could imagine that the Hydra took advantage of this latency to secure some of the decision-making power and ultimately control the Avengers.
If this may seem daunting given the turnaround of Captain America and the Winter Soldier, such a spring could however create surprise, especially since several elements resulting from WandaVision could point the finger at such a possibility. Indeed, through the character of Hayward, the Hydra could have found its new leader, various rumors wanting that the director of SWORD is the real antagonist of the series. The fact that he absolutely wants to destroy Wanda – a former prisoner of the Miracles program – might reflect the organization’s hatred of superheroes as some ads in the series also featured the Hydra logo. That being said, we’ll have to wait for more details on upcoming MCU adaptations to see if this tiny group will truly be able to return. While it’s interesting for the heroes of the Marvel Universe to face never-before-seen threats, it wouldn’t be surprising if the studios also capitalized on real and political danger for the next Phases of the MCU, especially since Red Skull could also return according to its interpreter Ross Marquand!
