While waiting for the continuation of season 10 of The Walking Dead on OCS, return to a particular scene between Daryl and Glenn.
While we recently suggested you discover Maggie and Daryl in a galley in a first extract of episode 17 of season 10 of The Walking Dead which will be broadcast on March 1 on OCS, this time it is the very first season that we are interested. Before forming a family in which Judith can call Daryl, Maggie and the others her “uncles” and “aunts”, the survivors of The Walking Dead were, for both of them, only strangers became galley companions – except for Rick and Shane of course. And when we come back to a scene from episode 4 of the series in particular, we can see how far we’ve come since then.
In episode 4 titled “Vatos”, Rick, Glenn, Daryl, and T-Dog stumble upon a group of survivors who are after the same thing as them: the bag of guns Rick brought with him to Atlanta. When Glenn gets kidnapped by Guillermo’s men, Daryl asks Rick if Glenn’s life is really worth all those guns. Between zombies and enemy communities, there is no shortage of adversaries, and Daryl is aware of this since he quickly compares weapons to a sack full of gold, but which allows him to defend and feed his family. An opinion he shares, making Rick understand that he is ready to sacrifice him and keep the guns.
If Rick had not stood up for Glenn, stressing that he would not be alive without him, we can therefore think that Daryl would have left the one who will become one of his closest friends in the hands of the Vatos gang, and even possibly killed their own hostage. This kind of scene really allows to realize the evolution of the characters and their relationship, and even more since the death of Glenn and the guilt of Daryl who feels responsible for it. In that same episode, Rick says that Daryl is “more or less” part of his group, thus emphasizing the contrast to the scene, much later, in which he calls him his brother. While waiting to know if, precisely, we will see these 2 brothers one day together, find out why this MCU actor was rejected in the casting of The Walking Dead.
