The Rebels in Star Wars may have won the Battle of Yavin, but at what cost?
In addition to being the first film to be released in theaters, A New Hope is also most famous with theEmpire Strikes Back. Indeed, the opus of George lucas, unveiled in 1977 under the title Star Wars , has a scene that marked the minds of Starwars fans. This is the explosion of the mythical Black Star. A sequence that takes place in the very last minutes of the feature film, when Luke Skywalker aided by Han Solo uses the Force to detonate the Galactic Empire space station, also known as the Death Star. A mind-boggling and heroic maneuver that not only saw the legendary Jedi win the Battle of Yavin but also claimed the lives of many.
And for good reason, as the book revealed Death Star Technical Companion, the explosion of the first Black Star killed nearly a million people! Indeed, taking into account the gigantic size of the space station (which measured approximately 100 km in diameter), the latter accommodated at the time of its destruction a titanic crew made up of 265,675 people. That is 52,276 gunners, 607,360 soldiers, 42,782 ship support personnel, and 180,216 pilots and support crews. This makes a total of 1,148,309 people on board. Not to mention the 400,000 droids estimated by fans of the franchise (but which were never confirmed in the book). A dizzying number therefore that prompts us to ask ourselves if the end really justifies the means. Also find out which movie Star wars is considered the worst of the saga by fans.
