Can we expect an event similar to Mario’s 35th birthday for the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda license? Link is getting ready to celebrate his birthday, and we are expecting lots of things for the occasion.
This year 2020/2021 is particularly important for Nintendo, for a simple reason: it’s birthday season! Last fall, we celebrated Mario’s 35th birthday and for the occasion, Nintendo put the dishes in the big: we were treated to a collection of Mario 3D games with Super Mario 3D All Stars, a funny Battle Royale based on Super Mario Bros called Super Mario 35, a new Mario Kart game in augmented reality (Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit), among others. And at the start of 2021, two new birthdays are emerging: Pokémon and The Legend of Zelda are celebrating their 25 and 35 years, respectively. The first to arrive is The Legend of Zelda, on February 21. Can we expect an event similar to the one proposed for Mario? We come back here to our expectations for this highly anticipated moment from fans of the license.
It has been several months since a rumor about a Zelda collection on Switch has been heard. Within this collection, players particularly expect to find Ocarina of Time (in remastered version), The Wind Waker HD or even Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, the two Wii opus. We could even potentially be entitled to a remake of The Oracle of Seasons / Ages (both GameBoy Color games) in the style of Link’s Awakening. According to other rumors, these 35 years will be the occasion for Nintendo to finally announce a release date for The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild 2 (with a new official name, maybe?). Finally, considering Nintendo’s interest in the mobile market in recent years, it wouldn’t be crazy to assume that an exclusive Zelda game for mobile would be in the works … Finally, the last possibility, and the most depressing: Nintendo has in fact nothing planned for this event, and we will not be entitled to any new information for the 35 years of the license.. Unlikely, but possible.
