The Last of Us Part II on PS4 Continues to Break Records; It is already the video game with the most GOTY awards in history, above masterpieces like The Witcher 3.
Naughty Dog did not have an easy path in their development of The Last of Us Part II, but finally the work pays off. The long-awaited sequel to The Last of Us for PS4 breaks all records and stands as the video game with the most GOTY awards in history, according to Game Awards.
A few days ago we told you that The Last of Us saga accumulated more than 500 awards, and that the Naughty Dog license is one of the most successful in recent years, after conquering players with the first PS3 title and its subsequent remastering on PS4.
The Last of Us 2 has become the game with the most GOTY awards to date, not only within the year 2020 but also in the entire history of those awards. It has even managed to surpass another industry titan such as The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, released in 2015.
The Naughty Dog title accumulates a total of 261 GOTY awards , an unbeatable mark for other great games released last year such as Hades (53 awards) and Ghost of Tsushima (49 awards) , in addition to Doom Eternal, Animal Crossing New Horizons or Final Fantasy VII Remake.
And the surprising thing is that this figure could rise because some video game sites like Giant Bomb still have not closed their votes to the best game of 2020, which in this case is based on the feedback of the players.
The Last of Us Part II has received 169 GOTY awards from the specialized press (we also named it the best game of 2020, with a 99 rating ), while 92 awards come from user votes.
To date, The Witcher 3 was the video game with the most matching awards of the year in history, with 260 awards, which now moves to a second-place behind The Last of Us 2. Right after we have another Naughty Dog title, as is the first The Last of Us, with 254 awards.
It’s not the first time that Naughty Dog has reigned at the Game of the Year awards. In 2009 they set all records with Uncharted 2 A Thief’s Reign , and also in 2016 with Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End for PS4, as well as the first The Last of Us in 2013.
Other 2020 video games with GOTY awards are Animal Crossing New Horizons (25) , Cyberpunk 2077 (23) , Final Fantasy 7 Remake (20) , Doom Eternal (12) and Half-Life Alyx (12) . Talking about the history of the Game Awards, the highlights are God of War (2018), The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (2017), GTA IV (2008), Resident Evil 4 (2005) or Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (2003).
