Kamiya supported with all his experience in action titles to create the game mechanics of Astral Chain
Running a game is never an easy task, much less if it is the first time that you have taken charge of its development. And if we add to that the fact that the game is one that seeks to start a new series, then the challenge becomes very complicated and even stressful. Takahisa taura, director of Astral Chain, discovered this when he led the team behind the Nintendo Switch exclusive, although to his fortune he also had the support of an industry veteran: the controversial Hideki Kamiya.
Inside a recent interview published by the magazine Famitsu, Taura shared some of the experiences he had during the development process of Astral Chain and that marked him as creative. One of the ones he remembers most fondly was when Kamiya helped him forge the game’s combat scheme, which became a great challenge for him and his team since it was not being as they wanted. It was then that Kamiya, with the vast experience he has in action games, approached them to advise them and offer his support, a gesture that Taura was infinitely grateful for.
“It was when we were trying to nail down the action mechanics. Kamiya put together all the things we had tried and thrown away or forgotten, and piece by piece it turned into something really cool. “ – Taura explained about it.
To the great luck of the producer, Astral Chain did quite well in sales. In fact, the game reports having already sold over a million copies, making it a major exclusive for the Switch.
In related news, a recent update to the developer’s official page raised a huge stir as it suggested that this year they will announce an extremely important project. The details are still unknown, but many have not hesitated to relate it to the anticipated third chapter of Bayonetta.
On the other hand, Hideki Kamiya opened up in an interview and revealed what are some of the things he likes least about the Nintendo Switch.
