Attention that Taika Waititi is preparing a new television series. Cable chain FX has announced ‘Reservation Dogs‘, a comedy of eight half-hour episodes whose first season will premiere in 2021. In Spain we still do not know a house since the channel’s series are distributed among different platforms and we are not sure how the arrival of Star will affect these premieres .
Co-created by Taika Waitit and Sterlin Harjo (who also directs the pilot), the comedy follows four teenage Indians from rural Oklahoma who spend their days committing crimes and fighting him. The fiction is based precisely on Harjo’s own experiences of adolescence, wanting to transfer life in Indian communities to television.
“As old friends, it was natural for Taika and I to find a project together and what better than a series that celebrates the storytelling styles of our indigenous communities, mine in Oklahoma and Taika’s in Aotearoa”
The leading quartet is made up of D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai as Bear, Devery Jacobs as Elora Danan, Paulina Alexis as Willie Jack and the debutante Lane factor like Cheese. The pilot also has Tamara Podemski, Zahn McClarnon, Macon Blair, Kirk Fox, Matty Cardarople, Dallas Goldtooth, Lil Mike and Funny Bone rounding out the cast.
With the great precedent that is being ‘What we do in the shadows’, I have full confidence that a great series can come from here by Waititi and Harjo. For now, despite the little information they have given us regarding the plot, at first glance it may be a good access to one of those realities that we rarely see on television.
